The Nocebo Response

"I am so glad to have you as my chiropractor. You are so different from others I have used. It is obvious that you are not doing this for the money and want to truly help people."
      Art, Minnetonka

Thank you to Art for offering his high praise of our work at Levin and Chellen Chiropractic.  If there is one major flaw which I think keeps health care sick in this country it is the mentality of "seeing" our patients, and/ or the public, as merely objects of commerce.   That is not a "healing space" to be in.  The article which accompanies this blog further details the importance of how we "see", ourselves; in this instance, as patients.  The doctor, though, has as much to do with aiding their patient as does the patient in choosing the healing attitude.  You will NEVER be misled by a true healer to "see" yourself as "sick".

We, the doctors at Levin and Chellen will NEVER prescribe care on the basis of helping ourselves at your expense.  Please tell your friends and family that there are providers out there who truly care; we are among them.

Doctor Shortage Looming? Maybe Not

"There is one element of the debate that just about every expert agrees on — that the U.S. has to stop paying physicians based on the number and type of treatments and procedures they do, and instead base payment on how well they keep patients healthy."
This is from an article from NPR, linked below.

Makes sense, right? Let's also keep in mind that "healthy" does NOT mean without symptoms, which is what the pharmaceutical industry wants us to believe. Additionally, I'll add that nature-based practitioners such as chiropractors and naturopaths would be a good source to consider when looking for health experts who really do keep people healthy and spend much time teaching patients how to avoid sickness.

Victoria Elizabeth Fischer was presented with a white coat by her grandfather, Dr. Christian Van Den Heuvel, at Georgetown University School of Medicine in August. The ceremony marks the start for each new class of medical students.

When I'm in (Arthritis) Pain, Should I Exercise or Rest?

Good advice here for arthritis sufferers. We'll add that if it has been a while since you have been aligned by a chiropractor, do that before resuming exercise. Expecting our frame and nervous system to operate smoothly and efficiently when not aligned and re-tuned is a lot like expecting our automobiles to operate optimally when they need maintenance. Actually, you may be avoiding excess wear and tear with periodic chiropractic "maintenance" AND you'll even feel more motivated to get the exercise you know you need, but avoid because of the fear of discomfort.

Non-Specific Lower Back Pain

Dr. Andrew White, my fellow student and colleague from Northwestern Chiropractic College, back in the 90's, wrote this article.  Since I admire him for his professionalism and caring ways I get his newsfeed.  I repost his article to you as good information and to inspire you or someone you know who has back pain to stop living with it and see a doctor of chiropractic.  Please share this on your Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/tonka.chiro)  or send a link to this Blog (http://landcchiropractic.blogspot.com/).

Maybe someone will notice it and get the help they need.  Thank you!
